Instructional Coaching

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Instructional Coaching will be on hold this academic year (2020-2021).

An instructional coach collaborates with faculty to achieve their "personal best" as teachers. Toward that goal, instructional coaching is shaped by principles of partnership based on equality, choice, dialogue, reflection, and praxis.

Specifically, an instructional coach can facilitate:

  • Student participation in class
  • Informal assessment of student learning
  • Effective delivery of content
  • Classroom management
  • Course design

Together with an instructional coach, a faculty member can identify a challenging instructional focus area, set goals, and develop and implement a plan to achieve them. An instructional coach is not an evaluator nor a content expert; the faculty member and the instructional coach are partners in effective teaching. Instructional coaching is a voluntary, confidential, and non-evaluative process.
