About the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Rasmussen was appointed Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on March 13, 2018.

Dr. Rasmussen has served as a faculty member and department head at Utah State University and as a faculty member, Dean and Vice President for research at Texas A&M-Kingsville. 

As the Vice President for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies (2016-2018) he was responsible for facilitating the research and graduate programs across the university.

During his time as dean of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences (2006-2016) his focus was on developing the research capabilities of faculty and improving student opportunities.  The faculty research funding increased over 100 percent and the student body increased over 80 percent.

His career research work focused on helping people understand how to manage natural resources.  This ranged from fire ecology to the technical applications of resource monitoring to mediating environmental conflicts in rural communities.  His international experience has encompassed Ethiopia, Morocco, Jordan, Israel, Australia, India, China, Mexico and Canada. 

He has been recognized by the Society for Range Management with an Outstanding Achievement and Fellow awards.  In addition, Rasmussen has served as president of the Society for Range Management, on its board of directors and on the board for the International Arid Lands Consortium.

Rasmussen received his B.S. and M.S. from Texas A&M University in College Station and his Ph.D. in Range Science at Texas Tech University.
