About Dr. Lou Reinisch


Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Lou Reinisch is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He officially took office in early August 2020. He comes to Kingsville from New York Institute of Technology where he served as Associate Provost.

Reinisch is a physicist with his master’s and doctoral degree from University of Illinois. He was an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at University of Muenster in Germany and a research scientist at the Biological Research Center in Szeged, Hungary.

He has consulted with various companies and had two spin-off companies formed using his work in fluorescence. One company, Veritide, manufactures a fast, non-invasive, reagent-free test for the bacterial spore, anthrax. The other company, Glyvale, is in the investigative phase of developing a non-invasive screening tool for diabetes. The core of Reinisch’s research uses lasers and spectroscopy in medicine. He has published extensively with the use of free-electron lasers in medicine. He is an associate editor with the journal Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.

Reinisch is a strong advocate for improving higher education with better support programs for at- risk students. He is a second generation American, a first-generation college student and from a low-income family which makes him especially dedicated to at-risk students.

He is a frequent public speaker, has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and has 50 book chapters in textbooks and proceedings. Reinisch’s publications on enhancing teaching physics and experiential techniques date back to 1978. He has been at the forefront of changing university education with the redesign of the classroom, hybrid teaching and teaching others how to use a flipped classroom.
