What to Bring

Valid Photo ID

A valid photo ID includes US driver's license, state-issued ID card, passport or US military ID.

Writing Supplies

A great deal of information will be given during orientation. Students and parents are encouraged to bring additional note-taking items such as paper, pens and pencils with them.

Casual Clothing and Walking Shoes

South Texas weather can be highly unpredictable! During summer months, we experience hot, windy and rainy weather in Kingsville, so students and parents may want to bring cool clothing (T-shirts and shorts or jeans), an umbrella and comfortable walking shoes (tennis shoes, sandals or flip-flops) for campus tours. Although the weather will be warm, students and parents may also want to pack a sweatshirt, lightweight jacket or sweater, as the facilities used for presentations during orientation may seem chilly to some.

During winter months, we can experience cold, windy and rainy weather.  You may want to bring a jacket or heavy sweater if the weather is expected to be cold.  Closed-toed comfortable walking shoes are recommended for campus tours.  Consider checking the weather forecast for the area before you visit to help you bring appropriate clothing.  Some winter days are very warm and sunny with temperatures above 70 degrees F.

Spending Money

Students should bring money for any snacks they may want. The campus bookstore will also be open, so students and parents should also bring extra money if they plan to purchase Javelina gear.

Javelina Pride

Now that you're officially a Javelina, your Javelina Pride is something you should never travel without! Make sure you bring it and a positive attitude with you to orientation because it'll go a long way to making your experience the best it can be! Not to mention, your Javelina Pride will be something you'll want to share with your fellow transfer students, parents, faculty and staff, and Orientation Leaders while you're here on campus!

Academic Paperwork

Please make sure to bring all required and updated academic paperwork with you including:

  • Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination Records: Although you are required to submit your bacterial meningitis vaccination record prior to attending your orientation session, you are encouraged to bring a copy with you to your session.
  • College/University Transcript(s): For proper advising during your session, you should bring your updated official transcript(s) from all previous institutions you attended. Official transcript(s) must be presented in a sealed envelope to the Office of Admission.

Checks, Credit Cards or Cash

Orientation is a time for students to finalize any important matters if they choose to such as on-campus housing, meal plans and financial aid so that students will be fully prepared for the start of classes. Be sure to bring checks, credit cards, cash or any other preferred and acceptable form of payment to take care of deposits (ex: $150 housing deposit), tuition and fees, bills, etc.
