Transfer Orientation FAQ

Do I have to pay to attend Transfer Thursdays?

Yes. Transfer students are charged a one-time mandatory orientation fee of $35, which is due upon registration.

Who should attend orientation?

Transfer students with 12 or more credit hours have the option to participate in Transfer Thursdays. All first year full-time transfer students with less than 12 credit hours must attend one of our Hoggie Days orientation sessions.

When will I get more information about orientation?

You will receive a registration confirmation e-mail within 3-5 business days from the date you registered. After you're registered for an orientation session, additional session information and updates will be sent to you via e-mail up until a few days prior to your orientation date.

How do I register for orientation?

You can register for orientation online through Blue and Gold Connection using the registration information provided for you on the Registration Instructions page of this website.

Is orientation mandatory for all new, full-time students?

All new, full-time students with less than 12 credit hours are required to participate in Hoggie Days, and all transfer students new to TAMUK with 12 or more hours are required to attend Transfer Thursdays or meet individually with an academic advisor. Our orientation programs are designed to help you feel comfortable and confident on our campus when you start your classes. We believe that orientation is a vital part of transitioning into college life. **Please keep in mind that all new students with less than 12 hours will be assessed the $75 mandatory orientation fee regardless of participation.

What should I do if I cannot attend orientation?

If you cannot attend orientation because of extenuating circumstances, you must make arrangements to meet with your academic advisor. Please click here for a list of advisors and their contact information.

What if I need to change my session date?

There are a limited number of spaces available for each orientation event, and sessions will fill quickly. If for any reason you need to change from one session to another your options may be limited depending on your timing. Registration is a live system, first-come first-serve. Be sure to contact us via e-mail at orientation@tamuk.edu to inform us of your request for a change. We will make the change for you.

Will there be activities for my family?

We offer a Family Orientation Program that runs concurrently with our Hoggie Days events.

Will I be able to purchase my books during orientation?

Yes, there will be time during or after orientation for new students to purchase their books. To purchase textbooks, be sure to bring a check, cash, or a credit card and a copy of your class schedule.

How do I register for classes?

You will register for classes at orientation. Your academic advisor will assist you in choosing classes for your major and will help you register you for your classes. Orientation Leaders will also be available to assist with this process.

How do I get my Javelina Express card (student ID)?

Before you register, you will visit the Javelina Express Card Office to take your ID photo and you will be presented with your ID during the orientation program.  Your ID will be needed throughout your college career for purchasing parking permits, getting into sporting events, accessing library services, accessing your residence hall and meal plan, and some professors require it for exams.

How do I get my parking permit?

In August, before the Fall semester starts, you will be able to purchase your parking permit online on our Blue and Gold Connection. 

How do I take care of my bill or find out about financial aid?

During your orientation session, you will have the opportunity to attend a session with financial aid and business office representatives to get more information learn about your payment options and financial services.
