PeerAssistance Leader (PALs) Mentoring Program

The PAL Mentoring program is designed to support all students in making a successful and enjoyable transition to the TAMUK campus by creating educational and supportive relationships designed to direct students to be successful. The PAL Mentors support students by sharing skills and positive habits, guiding students to resources and opportunities on campus, and promoting positive decision making.

Each PAL is tied to 3-5 University Success “UNIV” courses that is taken by all first time in college freshmen.Each freshman is encouraged to meet with a mentor once a week for 30 minutes or as needed

All TAMUK students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the PAL mentoring program as needed.


The mission of the Peer Assistance Leaders “PAL” Mentoring program is to support the mission of the Center for Student Success by assisting in the successful transition of First-Year and Transfer Javelinas by providing the opportunity for a one-to-one and small group mentor relationship. PALS will contribute to the academic and personal growth of incoming freshmen by offering their insights into academic and student support issues. They will strive to promote academic excellence and student success at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Program Goals

  • Support the transition process of all students to A&M Kingsville
  • Increase the student's connection with the university
  • Provide informal academic, career/professional and personal guidance
  • Connect Javelinas with campus resources
