GPS Tutor Biographies

GPS Tutors

GPS Tutors are current TAMUK students.  The GPS Center looks for a variety of majors to better serve our program.  The minimum requirements to become a GPS Tutor are:

  • Current Student in good standing at the time of application and throughout employment
  • Junior or Senior standing preferred but will accept Sophomores who have gone through the program. 
  • A preferred minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must give a one year commitment to this position and be a full time student both semesters. 
  • Must have strong communication and computer skills


2013-2014 GPS Tutors

Clarissa Acuna
Clarissa Acuna (Claudie)is a senior Sport and
Leisure major from Agua Dulce, Texas.  She
attended Agua Dulce High School.  After graduation,
Claudie plans to attend graduate school for
Guidance and Counseling.  She loves being a GPS
Tutor at TAMUK!
Jared Alford
Jared Alford is a junior electrical engineering major
from Portland, Texas.  He attended Gregory Portland
High School.  After graduation, Jared plans to work at
a refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas.  He loves the
engineering department at TAMUK!
Ashley Balles is a senior, Pre-Physical Therapy and
Performance Psychology major from San Antonio,
Texas.  She attended Floresville High School.  After
graduation, Ashley plans to attend occupational
therapy school.  She loves the friendly atmosphere at
Jasmine Cavazos
Jasmine Cavazos is a junior, Exercise Science
major from Elsa, Texas.  She attended Edcouch-Elsa
High School.  After graduation, Jasmine plans to
open up her own gym.  She loves the environment
and people at TAMUK!
Leah Cedillo
Leah Cedillo is a junior,Animal Science major from
La Joya, Texas.  She attended La Joya High School. 
After graduation, Leah plans to work for the USDA. 
She loves all the different organizations that TAMUK
has to offer. 
Shelly Campos
Shelly Campos is a sophomore Criminology major from Brownsville, Texas.  She attended Port Isabel High School.  After graduation, Shelly plans to work for the government.  She loves that TAMUK has already become her second home and everyone here is family!
Marija Dimstrovka Marija Dimitstrovka
Pedro Garcia
Pedro Garcia is a junior Electrical Engineering major
from Robstown, Texas.  He attended Tuloso-Midway
High School.  After graduation, Pedro plans to attain
a job at Lockheed Martin.  He loves that TAMUK has
the small town feel!
Daniel Gusme
Daniel Gusme is a junior, Civil Engineering major
from San Antonio, Texas.  He attended Luther
Burbank High School.  After graduation, Daniel
plans to work for a Fortune 500 Company and
become a supervisor.  He loves the student-teacher
ratio  at TAMUK and being able to easily visit with
his professors. 
Demarcus Kelly
Demarcus Kelly is a senior bio-medical science major
from Houston, Texas.  He attended Nimitz High School. 
After graduation, Demarcus plans to attend pharmacy
school.  He loves being the campus DJ at TAMUK!
Tressa Lozano
Tressa Lozano is a sophomore Marketing major from
Houston, Texas.  She attended Waller High School. 
After graduation, Tressa plans to work for an advertisement
agency.  She loves the family traditions of TAMUK!
Scott Michalk Scott Michalk
Veronica Pena
Veronica Pena is a senior Biomedical Sciences major
from Port Lavaca, Texas.  She attended Calhoun High
School.  After graduation, Veronica plans to be a
leadership consultant for her sorority and attend
pharmacy school.  She loves the palm trees at TAMUK!
Oscar Riojas
Oscar Riojas is a sophomore Biomedical Sciences major
from Mercedes, Texas.  He attended Weslaco East High
School.  After graduation, Oscar plans to attend physician’s
assistant school.  He loves the small class sizes at TAMUK!  
Coralie Saenz
Coralie Saenz is a sophomore CSDO major
from Kingsville, Texas.  She attended Bishop
High School.  After graduation, Coralie plans
to become a speech language pathologist. 
She loves the close relationships at TAMUK!
