Scholars Spotlight

The following scholars received the following honors for the Fall 2017 semester.  President's List: Andres Aleman, Rosemaria Moreno and Javon Walker. Dean's List: Roxana Castellanos, Natasha Ortiz and Lisa West.  Honor Roll: Jose Garcia. 

Nolan Trevino, a May 2015 graduate in Biomedical and Health Sciences, is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota in Neuroscience.  Initially, he wanted to earn a Pharm.D. and become a pharmacist.  However, throughout his first year as an undergraduate, he realized that he was interested in the scientific ideas and experiments that contribute to our understanding of biology.  This lead him to volunteer as an undergraduate research assistant where he could actively apply the coursework to design experiments and gain knowledge, rather than recapitulate what is already know.

Jonathan Grubb, an August 2017 graduate in Chemical Engineering is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Utah.  He believes that because of the McNair program is a research focused program, have an advantage due to additional time with faculty to conduct research.  Because he was able to spend his entire summer researching, his resume had a few more months of equivalent full-time research added ot it which definitely helped build his resume by showing he is diligent not only in classes, but in research.

Hector Ramirez, a December, 2016 graduate in Music Education is currently working on his Master's in Music Performance in Jazz Studies at Texas State University.  While studying at TAMUK, he was one of the original participants in the President's Undergraduate Research Scholars program and later became a McNair scholar.
