GO JAVELINAS! The Javelina Cheer team program consists of one squad (CoEd) and 2 mascots (Porky & Baby) . The cheer team cheers for football, volleyball and men's and women's basketball.
All cheerleaders are required to be enrolled full time at TAMUK for both fall and spring semesters. Each member is required to have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain on the squad.
Tryouts are held during the Spring Semester. Once selected as a TAMUK cheerleader he/she is expected to make a full year commitment to the team (April - April). An additional tryout may be held in the fall if it is deemed necessary by the coach.
Cheerleaders selected in the Spring tryout should plan on attending practices and NCA/UCA College Camp. While the exact dates for the camps vary from year to year everything generally takes place in July. All cheerleaders should be prepared to pay a fee of $350 the first week of June.
Practices will begin the first week of school. However, when competition nears practices will increase and cheerleaders may be required to stay over the Christmas holidays.
The Javelina Cheerleaders participate in many university functions. Cheerleaders are role models and are expected to carry themselves accordingly at all times. Cheerleaders are also expected to participate in fundraising efforts throughout the year.
