Institutional planning allows for a comprehensive and long-term perspective of the university which is based on a clear assessment and understanding of current activities. This perspective is helpful for leadership, both at the institutional and at the unit level, who make decisions to allocate resources in ways to best meet Cornell's mission.
The common objectives of institutional planning functions are to provide timely analysis and information to support the decision-making, planning, and policy-formulation processes of the University. The current main function of the office is to refine, direct, and coordinate a participatory process of institutional planning and evaluation that is designed to guide the University in fulfilling its purposes, accomplishing its mission, and determining how well it is achieving its goals.
