I Hate Hamlet closes out Texas A&M-Kingsville theatre season

The Texas A&M University-Kingsville communications and theatre arts department will close their 2010-2011 theatre season with several performances of the dramatic comedy I Hate Hamlet. Performances will be in the Little Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 26-27, and Friday, April 29, and at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, and Sunday, May 1. Admission is $5.
I Hate Hamlet is about Andrew Rally who is a successful television actor who wants more. He wants to do Shakespeare. To his surprise, he gets cast in the lead role of Hamlet which leaves him terrified. However, he comes upon an acting coach…who has been dead for 50 years.
As it turns out, every actor that takes on the role of Hamlet is allowed to call upon the services of an actor from the past that has already played the role. Andrew gets the late John Sidney Barrymore.
Sophomore Myles Martinez plays the lead role of Andrew Rally. He is a theatre arts major from San Antonio who also has appeared in The Great Cross Country Race and Boxcar.
Barrymore is played by Luis R. Lopez, a freshman communication sciences and disorders major from Rio Grande City.
Andrew’s girlfriend Felicia Dantine will be played by Betsy Wallek a senior communications major from Ben Bolt. She was assistant director of Sylvia and co-playwright for Las Cartas in addition to performing in Hot Jedi Sisters Want the Force with You, The Great Cross Country Race and Mama Drama.
Christian Acevedo, a sophomore theatre arts/communications major from San Benito portrays Deirdre McDavey. She has previous acting experience in Tommy, Daughters, Mama Drama, Wizard of Oz and Little Shop of Horrors. She was co-playwright for Las Cartas.
Michelle Flores plays Lillian Troy. Flores is a junior theatre major from Alice. She has been in Savage in Limbo, Mama Drama, Daughters, Tommy, Dead Man’s Cellphone and many other productions.
Miguel Angel Venegas, a junior theatre arts/communications major from Pharr, plays the part of Gary Peter Lefkowitz. He has previously been seen in Little Shop of Horrors, Boxcar, Godspell and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
I Hate Hamlet is being directed by Dr. Patrick Faherty, associate professor in the communications and theatre arts department. Catherine Desiderio, a sophomore theatre education/communications major from Kingsville is the assistant director. She has acted in Dead Man’s Cellphone, Mama Drama and Daughters. She was sound designer for Boxcar and Las Cartas and stage manager for The Great Cross Country Race.
Junior Leah Lizzett Luna, a theatre arts major from Del Rio, will serve as stage manager. She has previous experience in Tommy, Wizard of Oz, Sylvia, Las Cartas and others.
Corey Ranson, assistant professor in the communications and theatre arts department, will be the stage and light designer, as well as the fight choreographer. Cristina Suarez-Machuca is the costumer for this production and the department.
