A 5,200 square foot cardio fitness and free weight room. A 1/12 mile elevated indoor jogging track. Two full-size basketball courts. The latest exercise equipment, including handicap accessible equipment.
These are just a few of the features of Texas A&M University-Kingsville's new Student Recreation Center (SRC). Students, faculty and staff get to learn all about the new facility--and start using it--Tuesday, April 6 at the SRC Campus Premiere, happening from 4-11 p.m.
Opening ceremonies start with cheers at 4 p.m. from the university's cheer team. Guest speakers come next, including university president Dr. Steven Tallant, Student Government Association president Kenneth Nelson and vice president for student affairs Dr. Terisa Remelius.
Following the speakers, tours will be offered every 15 minutes from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and again from 5-6 p.m.
The day also will feature a series of giveaways and classes, including the following:
4 p.m.--Sports towels, Precor water bottles and T-shirts to the first 50 people
4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.--Zumba class
5 p.m.-6 p.m.--Health packs with tips; three personal trainer giveaways; two free SRC memberships for faculty/staff
Gym activities on display at the Campus Premiere include following:
5:30-6:30 p.m.--Step aerobics class
7-8 p.m.--Intramural basketball finals (top four teams playing in both gyms)
8-9 p.m.--Intramural indoor soccer championship game
9-10 p.m.--Intramural basketball championship game
10-11 p.m.--Slam Dunk Contest
The SRC will be available for use by students, faculty and staff following the Campus Premiere. Faculty and staff will have free use of the facilities through the summer sessions. Starting in the fall, faculty, staff, retirees and alumni memberships will be available for purchase by the semester ($100) or for the year ($300).
