The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Wind Symphony was recently selected as one of three college bands to perform at the prestigious Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference in San Antonio in February 2010.
The conference is attended by thousands of music teachers from Texas and across the country. According to Ross Boothman, band division vice-president of TMEA, “Because of the inarguably high profile of the TMEA Clinic/Convention, it is a difficult task to select which university ensembles to showcase in performance. Our convention has become international in scope and is the envy of every music education association in the nation and indeed the world.”
The Wind Symphony is the top wind band at Texas A&M-Kingsville and is comprised primarily of undergraduate music majors. The ensemble performs several times each year on campus and throughout the South Texas region. Brian Shelton, director of bands and conductor of the Wind Symphony, said of the accomplishment, “I am so proud of these students. They have worked extremely hard over the past few years to achieve a high level of excellence.
“This invitation is the result of their work and commitment. It is going to be exciting for the students, the Kingsville alumni, the community and myself.”
