KINGSVILLE (March 14, 2007) — Two of the highlights of Asian Pacific Heritage Awareness Month at Texas A&M University-Kingsville are the Moon Festival and banquet, happening Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25.
The Moon Festival invites the public, young and old to an evening of fun from 6-9 p.m. at the courtyard of the Memorial Student Union Building (MSUB), free of charge. Samples of culture from China, India, the Philippines and other parts of the Asian world will be represented at tables and booths. Some of the activities include Chinese name writing, henna painting, snacks, Indian and Filipino dancers, a costume parade and a tae kwon do demonstration. For children, there will be clowns, face painting and a moon jump.
The Asian Pacific Heritage Awareness Banquet takes place in the MSUB ballrooms from 5:30-8 p.m. and promises more than just a delicious meal. Attendees also will enjoy a fashion show, Chinese music and dancers, and slides of scenes and attractions from throughout the Asian world. Finally, there is the buffet dinner, with a host of different culinary treats. Some items include tandoori chicken, Thai vegetable lo mein, Indian salad and Vietnamese green beans with tofu, just to name a few dishes from the menu.
Tickets to attend the banquet are $12 for general admission and $6 for students and can be purchased at the university information desk, located on the first floor of the MSUB.
