KINGSVILLE (January 30, 2007) — The beloved tale of Aladdin, the magic lamp and the genie that lives inside it comes to life on the stage of Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s Jones Auditorium.
Aladdin debuts with its only public preview performance Sunday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. Admission is $1.
Following the public preview performance, a week of morning performances for area schools takes place Feb. 5-9.
Dr. Patrick Faherty, associate professor of communications and theatre arts, directs the production. Griselda Gonzalez, a senior theatre arts and Spanish major from Driscoll, is assistant director. Stage manager is Christina Garcia, a sophomore theatre arts major from Zapata. This version of Aladdin was adapted by William Glennon.
The cast of Aladdin is:
Jannah Morales, a junior theatre arts and history major from Kingsville, plays Darkana Nightglade. Heraclio Gonzalez Jr., a junior theatre arts and radio/television major from Kingsville, plays the part of Jafar. Felicia Morin, a Kingsville theatre arts sophomore, plays the part of Mother. Heidi Langschied, a student at Santa Gertrudis Elementary School, plays Abu. Bulmar is played by Garrett Henke, a Ricardo Middle School student. Lorraine Rodriguez, a theatre arts and communications junior from Laredo, plays Serena. Joey Olivarez, a Taft freshman majoring in theatre arts, plays the titular role of Aladdin. The Genie of the Lamp is played by Rick Saenz, a sophomore theatre arts major from Falfurrias. The Genie of the Ring is played by Leah Lizzett Luna, a freshman theatre arts major from Del Rio. Grand Wazier is played by Aaron Martwick, a theatre arts freshman from Beeville. Lindsay Ramos, a junior theatre and early childhood education major from Falfurrias, plays the Princess. The Sultan is played by Clifford Moore of Kingsville. The Palace Attendant is played by Jennifer Jackson, a communication sciences and disorders sophomore from San Antonio. Kristie Vela, a freshman communications major from Falfurrias, plays a merchant.
