Seven contestants vie for Mr. TAMUK title

KINGSVILLE (November 7, 2006) — Seven Javelina men have signed up to compete for scholarships and the title of Mr. TAMUK 2006-07. The competition themed Hollywood Hunks, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in Jones Auditorium.

In a special contest new this year, students are asked to donate spare change to their favorite contestant during Penny Wars going on all this week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the television lounge of the Memorial Student Union Building. The candidate who receives the most change will have all of the proceeds donated to the charity of his choice.

This year’s contestants include

Roy Arredondo, a senior animal science/pre-vet major from Brownsville; Derrick A. Escobedo, a senior business management and finance major from Donna;
Gupta Maddala, a graduate student studying computer science from Chennai, India;
Jeremy Michael Martinez, a junior fine arts and general business major from Kingsville;
Juan A. Riojas, a senior biology major from Three Rivers;
Juan A. Sauceda, a senior computer science major from Laredo;
and Michael T. Snider, a graduate student studying civil engineering from Corpus Christi.
