Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical Into the Woods comes to the stage of Jones Auditorium at Texas A&M University-Kingsville July 28-30.
Show times are at 7 p.m. July 28 and 29, and at 3 p.m. July 30. Admission is $5, or $3 with a valid A&M-Kingsville I.D.
Presented by the music department, in conjunction with the communications and theatre arts department, Into the Woods blends familiar fairy tales with the story of a childless baker and his wife, who catalyze the action of the story by attempting to reverse a curse on their family in order to have a child. Music and Lyrics of Into the Woods are written by Stephen Sondheim. The book was written by James Lapine, who also served as the original Broadway director. Dr. Arikka Gregory, assistant professor of voice, directs this Texas A&M-Kingsville production.
The cast of Into the Woods is made up of:
Gabriel Villarreal plays the Narrator and Mysterious Man. The Falfurrias native is a junior double major in radio/TV broadcasting and theatre education. Juan Manuel Sentíes, a junior education major from Laredo, plays The Baker. Arianna Cervera plays The Baker’s Wife; she is a senior music education major from McAllen. Kelly Jennifer Lozano, a senior music education major from Laredo, plays Red Riding Hood. Analicia Martinez plays Little Red’s Granny and The Giant; she is a junior communications major from San Antonio. Sophomore theatre arts education major Jannah Morales of Kingsville plays Snow White.
Holly McCauley, an A&M-Kingsville alumnus who teaches music in Gillette, plays Cinderella. Kingsville senior O’Ryan White plays The Wolf and Cinderella’s Prince; he is majoring in both theatre arts and math education. Sara Flores, a sophomore art major from Bishop, plays Florinda. Lindsay Ramos, a Falfurrias junior majoring in theatre arts and elementary education, plays Lucinda. Stephanie Wright plays Cinderella’s Stepmother; she is a Kingsville senior majoring in theatre arts and English education. Rebecca Gamboa plays Cinderella’s Mother.
Taylor Maupin IV plays Cinderella’s Father; he is a sophomore theatre arts major from Falfurrias. Chris Hinojosa, a senior music education major from Victoria, plays The Steward. Christopher A. Leach, a sophomore music education major from Kingsville, plays Jack. Loida Gonzalez plays Jack’s Mother; she is a sophomore biology pre-med major from Monterrey, Mexico. Rapunzel is played by Victoria Anne Vinson, a senior music education major from Alice. Rapunzel’s Prince is played by Noel Reyna, a junior kinesiology major from Burlington, New Jersey. Audrey Quintero, a senior music education major from Sinton, plays The Witch. Robert Flores, a senior music education major from Kingsville, is the Conductor. Callee Borchardt, an 8 th grade student from Santa Gertrudis School, plays Milky White.
The crew of Into the Woods includes:
April FitzSimon, a junior early childhood development major from Bishop, serves as one of two stage managers. The other stage manager is Vanessa Vargas, who also is light and set designer; she is a Sandia native Jinnelle Aguilar-Henley, a junior theatre arts major with a double minor in women’s studies and sociology, serves as assistant stage manager. Jannah Morales of the cast also serves as props leader. Adam Hernandez, a junior engineering major, serves as sound engineer. Phillips-Head Construction will assist with set construction. Cristina Suarez-Machuca is costumer for the production and Sheri Borchardt is in charge of the box office.
