Guest lecturers introduce students to baroque trumpet

KINGSVILLE (April 11, 2006) — The Texas A&M University-Kingsville music department will host guest lecturers Brian Shaw and Nathaniel Mayfield as they present An Introduction to the Baroque Trumpet. The lecture will be held from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Recital Hall of the Bellamah Music Building. The lecture will be hosted by Dr. Christopher Carrillo, assistant music professor. All are invited to attend.

The pair will discuss historical traditions and interpretations as well as provide keen insight into the historical performance practices of the Baroque era of music. They will perform on authentic period instruments of the early 1700s and discuss the evolution from the Baroque to the modern trumpet.

Shaw and Mayfield are graduates of the prestigious Eastman and Julliard Schools respectively and have extensive performance experience on both historical and modern trumpets.
