Breanne Flores-Contreras, academic advisor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville has been selected as one of only 10 to participate in the 2015-17 Class of Emerging Leaders for the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

“I feel privileged and extremely excited to be selected for this program. Knowing that only 10 participants are selected from a nationwide pool makes me feel very honored,” she said. “I hope to learn from other advising professionals about their respective campuses and the best practices they currently have in place and bring back this wealth of knowledge to better serve our campus and our students.”

Flores-Contreras is an academic advisor for the university’s Center for Student Success and is only one of 10 advisors internationally who were selected for the leadership program. She is an alumna who has been working at the university since 2007. Flores-Contreras was assistant athletic director for compliance and senior woman administrator until 2011. Since then, she has been academic advisor for kinesiology students.

NACADA-The Global Community for Academic Advisors is committed to diversity in their membership and leadership ensuring sustainability of the association’s leadership in the future.

The Emerging Leaders Program is a two-year program during which time Flores-Contreras will work closely with a mentor from the association to gain skills, experiences and knowledge needed to move into a leadership position in the association.
