Former Javelina Football great and NFL Hall of Famer Darrell Green will return to Texas A&M University-Kingsville to help promote leadership among local teens.

On Saturday, April 25, Green, the Centene Corporation and Cenpatico will host the “Strong Youth, Strong Community” THINK Summit, a teen summit at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Green will discuss the importance of self-confidence and self-respect. In addition, over 300 students, along with community leaders, mentors and health experts will participate in smaller break-out sessions to discuss topics of concern such as bullying, self-esteem, health and nutrition, and explore solutions and interventions that the youth can take back to their local communities.

Green is a Javelina football legend. He played football for four years at Texas A&I and was on the track and field team for three years. Green was a two-sport All-American in the early 1980s. Green was a first-round NFL draft pick and went on to play for the Washington Redskins for 20 years.

He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1989 and joined the NFL Hall of Fame in 2008.

“We are excited to welcome Darrell Green back to campus. Darrell’s legacy of excellence on the football field is part of an important chapter in Javelina football history. This summit reflects Darrell’s enduring commitment to community service,” said Dr. Steven Tallant, President of Texas A&M-Kingsville.

The “Strong Youth, Strong Community” THINK Summit is free of charge and will attract close to 300 middle and high school students from the surrounding schools in Kingsville. Early registrants will be entered into a drawing to win an opportunity to attend the Texas A&M-Kingsville Tailgate Party with Green immediately following the Summit.
