Program Description:

This is a study-abroad course, based in Paris.  The course will focus on the study of French and Francophone culture as it is expressed in the country’s monuments and museums, modes of transport, eating habits and patterns of daily living and speaking.  This course will consist of 45 hours: 4 hours of pre-departure and 4 hours of post-trip classroom and seminar lecture/discussion/team activity on the TAMUK campus; and 37+ hours of program-related activities in France including excursions to sites and museums associated with French and Francophone culture.  Students will learn about the cultural, historical, and physical conditions that influence inhabitants.

Students will learn about the history and culture of Paris through visits to the Château de Vincennes, the Catacombs, the Louvre, La Madeleine church, the Opéra Garnier and through their walking tours of Le Marais, Place des Vosges, Place de la Concorde, Place Vendome, Jardin des Tuileries and Montmartre. In addition, they will learn how to play pétanque in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Students will keep a daily study log in French of their experiences, of the French words and phrases they have used and learned, and of their educational/cultural excursions.    Students will write a synthesis essay or create an electronic website in which they bring together all aspects of the program.
