Graduate Council Meeting

Members present: Ballard, Bradley, Brown, McLauchlan (for Clapp), Downs, Faruqi, Fields, Hewitt, Massa, Canales (for Nelson), Gresham (for Oh), Olivares, Shorter, Torres, Munoz (student rep), Nava (student rep)

 

Members absent: Wagman, Lewis (student rep), Camarena (student rep), Mohanlal (student rep)

 

Motion to accept minutes from last meeting: Approved

 

Executive Committee - Nothing to report

 

Curriculum Committee - Dr. Bradley informed the Council that the following curriculum proposals were reviewed and approved by the Graduate Curriculum Committee:  CS (4), EE (2), and ME (1).  After careful review of the proposals by Drs. Olivares and Bradley, approval was given to the proposals.

 

Membership Committee – Dr. Brown announced that nominations for the TAMUK Graduate Faculty will be announced during the first week of January 2007.

 

Program Review – Dr. Olivares announced for Dr. Clapp that the self study graduate program reports were due to him on December 1, 2006.

 

Dean’s Report – Dr. Olivares discussed the 4th Pathways Symposium at which 60 students from TAMUK participated.   This symposium has great value to our students and offers the potential for faculty in the TAMUS system to interact.  The next Pathways Symposium is Nov. 2-3, 2007 at Tarleton State University.

 

Dr. Frank Hull, Director of International Studies and Programs spoke to the Council about his office’s activities and opportunities for faculty and students to gain experience through international programs. 

 

Student Representatives – Nothing to report

 

Old Business – None

 

New Business – The Graduate Council will not meet on Nov. 28th unless issues arise that require Graduate Council attention.
