Minutes from the Graduate Council Meeting of February 15, 2005


Faculty Present: Drs. Bradley, Faruqi, Garza, Hewitt, Martinez, Massa (represented by Dr. Perez-Ballestero), Melendy, Nekovei, Olivares, Pilehvari, Ponder, Shorter and Wagman.


Faculty Absent:Dr. Stanko and Dr. Ballard


Graduate Student Representatives Present:Aaron Haines, Rebeka Gutierrez, Brian Dyson and Jayce Mathews


The meeting was held in the Blue Room of Sam Fore Hall.Dr. Melendy called the meeting to order at 2:45 P.M.


I.                    The minutes from the January 25, 2005 meeting were approved unanimously.


II.                 Standing Committee Reports


A.    Executive Committee-Dr. Melendy stated there was nothing to report at this time.


B.     Curriculum Committee-Dr. Bradley stated there was nothing to report at this time.


C.    Membership Committee-Dr. Melendy stated there were 40 applicants for Graduate Faculty status.After discussion, the Graduate Council unanimously approved their applications.


D.    Program Review Committee- Dr. Massa (represented by Dr. Perez-Ballestero) stated the Graduate Program Reviews are being conducted.The final reports are due to Dr. Massa by 2/25.The overall report will be submitted by Dr. Massa on 3/22 to the Graduate Council.


III.               Deanís Report


Dr. Olivares delivered the Deanís report.


Dr. Olivares reported there are 307 prospective candidates for graduation in May 2005.A handout was provided that details the breakdown by colleges and programs.


IV.              Student Representatives


Nothing was discussed at this time.


V.                 Old Business


Nothing was discussed at this time.


VI.              New Business


Nothing was discussed at this time


VII.            A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 2:54 P.M. to allow faculty to attend the Faculty Senate Forum.The motion was seconded and passed.The next meeting of the Graduate Council is scheduled for March 22, 2005.
