Student director to present one-act play Spotlight

Student director Anya Pena, a junior theatre major at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, will show off her skills as she presents the one-act play Spotlight this month. 

Spotlight will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 19-21, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 23. All performances are in The Little Theatre and admission is $5.

Pena, from Brookshire, said she is producing this play for directing class. Spotlight tells the story of a girl trying to get into the spotlight as her boyfriend tries to make her understand that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. The Queen Bee of the theatre makes an appearance just to try to throw her off her game. Meanwhile, the boyfriend’s roommate is seething because he was cast as a chorus member.

Pena has previous experience acting in God of Carnage, ‘Dentity Crisis, Sins of Sor Juana and Blood Wedding. She was stage manager for Noises Off.

Cassandra Arguijo is stage manager for Spotlight.  She is a junior communication major from Riviera. She was assistant stage manager for God of Carnage and acted in Playing with Toys.

The cast includes--

Lauren Shelby Lomas-Bunch, a sophomore radio/TV major from Kingsville, who has been in Little Shop of Horrors, Once Upon a Mattress, Same as Sarah, Crystal City 1969, Playing with Toys, The Toby Show and Aladdin Jr.;

Miguel Garcia, a junior biology major from Alamo, in his first production;

Mario Saenz, a senior English major from Hebbronville, in his first production; and

Robin Martinez, a freshman communication sciences and disorders major from Raymondville, in her first production.
