The Texas A&M University-Kingsville basketball teams and the Department of Special Programs will host nearly 2,000 elementary school students when they take to the court Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Steinke Physical Education Center (SPEC).

The Second Annual Live the Dream event, sponsored by H.E.B., gets underway at 10 a.m. as the Javelina women take the court. The men’s team has a noon tip-off. Both play Lone Star Conference games against Eastern New Mexico.

In between the games, staff from the university’s special programs department will talk to the elementary students, second through fifth graders from almost 20 different regional schools, about the importance of staying in school and getting a college education.

This year’s expected attendance is double the size of the group the university hosted in the event’s inaugural year.
