About Tony Martinez

Martinez studied advertising and marketing at Southern Methodist University before leaving to pursue a career as a comedian. He spent nearly 14 years as a professional improvisational comedian working with George Lopez, Carlos Mencia and the cast of Whose Line is it Anyway?

Then he began a new career as the founder and marketing director for TheCrushGirls.com, an entertainment news website and event management/staffing company in Corpus Christi. Now in its seventh year, TheCrushGirls.com has become one of the top five media news websites in the Coastal Bend, a category that includes newspaper, radio, internet and television companies.

The website has more than 20,000 visitors each month and a combined email and social media network of more than 25,000 subscribers. The company is known for its popular spokespersons that have a “crush” on Corpus Christi. They participate as community ambassadors and promotional models. The company provides a comprehensive source of entertainment news information for the Corpus Christi area. It also is known for its fast-growing Coastal Bend Fashion Showcase hosted annually at the American Bank Center.

The company has achieved this success without any of the traditional means of advertising but instead has used the unique combination of news distribution via its website, promotional marketing through its Crush street teams/ambassadors and effective use of social media and email marketing. The effective use of its capabilities has gained the company powerful partnerships with major venues and companies/organizations in the Corpus Christi area, including the American Bank Center, Concrete Street Amphitheater, Community Enrichment Organization and the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The company also provides support for nonprofit organizations such as the American Cancer Society, STARS, Big Brothers Big Sisters and many, many more.

As an official business partner for Constant Contact, one of the leading email and social media services companies in the United States, Martinez and his staff also provide personalized coaching for businesses in the effective use of social media and email marketing tools, as well as event management and marketing.
