All applicants should first apply to TAMUK Graduate Studies at and meet the following MSW TAMUK Clinical/Activist Admissions Requirements (specific additional requirements for Advance Standing applicants are identified):

1. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. The undergraduate education must reflect a sound liberal arts foundation, including courses in the humanities, as well as in the social, behavioral, and biological sciences. You must submit official academic transcript showing the date the degree was awarded.

2. Applicants need a 3.0 overall undergraduate G.P.A. for Advanced Standing candidates must hold a BSW from a CSWE accredited program.  Should also have a 3.2 GPA in the social work major. In extraordinary circumstances both requirements can be waived by the Admission Committee.

3. Applicants need to complete the Graduate Admission Application, specifying Two Year MSW program or Advance Standing MSW Program and whether they would like to be full-time or part-time.

4. Complete the  MSW Field Practicum Application & Questionnaire form and turn in to the MSW Field Education Director.

The MSW Program does not require standardized testing (GRE or MAT) for admission to the program. Full admission with Stipulation means the applicant must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their first semester of graduate studies.

Application Deadlines: Email completed package

The closing date for receipt of all admission materials is October 15 for admittance in spring semester and May 15 for admittance in fall semester.      

Applicants whose admission files are not completed by either deadline may not be considered for the academic year which begins the following September. Normally, four to six weeks are required for the School of Social Work to receive transcripts; applicants should therefore make every effort to ensure that all relevant documents are requested well before the deadline date. The Department of Social Work reserves the right to change the closing date for the receipt of application materials. Notice of any deadline extension will be posted on this page. Admission is dependent on Admission Committee decision.

Notification of Acceptance: Only COMPLETE applications will be reviewed. Those applications received after the deadline may be considered if space becomes available in the program.

The program does not grant social work course credit for life experience or previous work experience.
