Charles Allison Speaks at Moon Night 2011

October 8, 2011

Charles Allison was the featured speaker this year in Alice Texas at the Alicia Salinas Public Library’s International Observe the Moon Night event.   Started in 2010, the International Observe the Moon Night, InOMN, boasted over 500 hundred events in 53 countries.  The tally is not in yet for 2011 but is expected to exceed the first year’s participation.  Assisting Mr. Allison was TAMUK Physics Club member Wolfgang Schwertner, a junior in the Electrical Engineering degree program.  The presentation was followed by a viewing period across the street in a small park.  Despite threats of storms and clouds,  the Moon was visible during almost the entire viewing time after the presentation.

The International Observe the Moon Night organization is composed of scientists, educators, and Moon enthusiasts from government,  non-profit organizations, and businesses from around the world and includes several different divisions of NASA.  For more information, go to http://observethemoonnight.org/ , the official website for InOMN.
