Personnel Profile

Ralph Cuevas, Museum Curator

Ralph Cuevas

As Museum Curator at the John E. Conner Museum at Texas A&M University – Kingsville, I am responsible for all aspects of collections management concerning the artifacts under the Museum’s care.  Some of the key duties of my job include developing, implementing, and installing temporary and permanent museum exhibits.  I also coordinate the loan of collections to and from the Conner Museum and other institutions.  I am a native Texan and proud to call San Antonio my hometown.  I completed my Bachelors of History degree and also a Masters of History, with a concentration in Public History, from the American Military University.

I am also a military veteran, having retired from active duty service in the United States Air Force after serving for nearly 26 years.  When I was in the USAF I volunteered to work at the base museums and to participate in the base tour guide programs at many of the bases I was assigned to.  The USAF Public Affairs Office coordinates and conducts tours of Air Force bases for civic organizations, veteran reunions, and various groups wishing to learn more about the United States Air Force.  These volunteer duties allowed me to utilize my knowledge of military history and also provided visitors to the base with a better understanding of the role which our Air Force plays in protecting our nation.

My professional experience in history includes working at the Museum of North Texas History, Wichita Falls, Texas.  It was there that I developed and curated the museum’s Vietnam War exhibit.  I participated in many other aspects of museum work, as well as sitting on the museum’s board of directors.  I also volunteered at the Wichita County Archives.  I am a member of the American Association for State and Local History.  My area of expertise is in military history and in twentieth century American history, with a special interest in World War Two.

I am very happy to be a part of the John E. Conner Museum and to be on the TAMUK team.  It is exciting to know that my skills, knowledge, and training will become part of the effort to help the museum interpret the history of the people and events of this community for everyone to learn about and to take pride in.
