JavALAB ALEKS Algebra Competition

The Department of Mathematics sponsored its first JavALab Algebra Competition open to all students enrolled in MATH 1314 in the spring of 2013 and students enrolled in MATH 0302 who had completed the course early with an “A.”  The competition consisted of a college algebra comprehensive assessment in the ALEKS program.  First, second and third place winners were determined by the top highest three scores and received cash prizes of $250, $150, and $100 respectively.  All students could benefit in participating, as the earned score on the assessment replaced the final grade in the course, if it was higher than the final average.

We congratulate our competition winners!

Deirdre Spainhour           First place with a score of 99%

Francois Brou                 Second place with a score of 95%

Andrew Deases               Third place with a score of 88%

Plans are to continue the algebra competition each long semester as well as to introduce a calculus competition soon.
