It is difficult for me to introduce myself in short writing. But, overall, I returned to school at the age of 37 and ten years later, came to Sam Houston State University for the doctorate program in 2007. In the beginning, I was to become a journalist, but I was bitten by the CJ bug and the rest has been an interesting, exciting, challenging, and rewarding path in criminal work, behavioral studies, investigations, and my favorite, academics. Simply, I absolutely adore teaching. I also feel extremely blessed to have come here and become a Texan. I know some of you would challenge that "Texan" self-proclamation ~ so to clarify ~ I was born on the Southside of Chicago to parents/grandparents of German/Irish/American Indian descent. My dad came from a family farming operation that has grown to one of the largest in Indiana. Fewer things excite me more than seeing silos, barns, and livestock! I knew when I moved here that I would not return permanently to the frigid North.

Before coming to Texas, I started teaching in 2001 at small, private colleges while expanding field experience by working on specialized prosecutorial projects, investigation cases, and even teaching in a men’s maximum-security prison program. One of the most interesting classes was teaching Persuasion to long-term offenders!

Aside from teaching law enforcement, juvenile, societal law, and diversity classes, I serve in various capacities of community-based projects. One such project was creating a community pilot program of matching at-risk youth with local livestock operations, titled Serendipity Bridge. These have become my “hobby” as it lets me spend time with horses, wear one of my countless pairs of boots, play in the mud, act like a kid, and get much needed “fresh” air and sunshine!
