Hurricane Harvey

A Message From the Texas A&M University-Kingsville President,

Javelina Nation is coming together to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Whether you have been directly impacted by the storm or are helping family members who have been affected, our thoughts are with you, and we are here to support you.

If you are unable to get back to campus due to the hurricane, please let us know as soon as possible. We will excuse absences through September 11 for students who are unable to return, and faculty will work with you to develop an educational plan that fulfills academic requirements and best suits your needs. There are a variety of ways to accommodate students who have missed class and those who may still be unable to return. Accommodations will be determined based on your situation as well as the classes you are taking.

If your situation requires an absence beyond September 11, we will work with you to determine the best course of action. Please be sure to contact the Dean of Students, Kirsten Compary, at 361-593-3606 or via email at so that we may compile a list of students and help direct you to the appropriate resources for assistance.

We recognize that some students have returned from evacuation yet may require other forms of assistance. Student Health and Wellness offers counseling services and may be reached at 361-593-3991. Tutoring and other academic support is available through the Center for Student Success at 361-593-3290.

If you are struggling to get your textbooks or other materials due to hardship or delivery delays, the Jernigan Library often has copies that can be borrowed, or your professor may be able to help provide materials until your books arrive.

Again, we are committed to working with any student impacted by Hurricane Harvey and will work with you to create a plan that helps you succeed this semester. Please let the Dean of Students know if you have concerns or unmet needs so we can direct you to the appropriate sources of help. If you know of other students who cannot return to campus or who are struggling in the aftermath of the storm, please share that information with us so we can reach out to them.
