Budwood Certification Program

The Citrus Center manages the Citrus Budwood Certification program on behalf of the Texas Department of Agriculture :

The program was established by the Texas Legislature in 1997 (House Bill 2807). The aim is to ensure that a foundation collection of citrus varieties from which known graft- and insect- transmitted pathogens have been removed by shoot-tip grafting and thermotherapy is maintained, and used to produce increase trees from which budwood is cut for nurseries.
