Drops and Withdrawals
We know things can change once you register for classes. Here is what you need to know to drop an individual course or withdraw from the semester.
Drops and withdrawals are initiated by the student. Not attending class does not initiate a drop, withdrawal or refund and may result in failing grades.
Dropping an Individual Course
Dropping an individual course means you are still enrolled for one or more classes at Texas A&M-Kingsville for the semester. If you drop on or before the census date for the term you are registered, then it will not show up on your transcript, but it may impact enrollment requirements for financial aid.
Undergraduate students subject to Senate Bill 1231 are allowed up to six (6) course drops without receiving a grade penalty (QI) during their undergraduate studies. To learn more about Senate Bill 1231 visit our website.
There is a deadline to drop courses for each term which is notated on the academic calendar.

Withdrawing from the Semester
We get it; life happens. You started out strong, but plans change. Withdrawing means you will no longer be enrolled in any classes for the semester, in other words dropping to zero hours.
There is a deadline to withdraw for each term which is notated on the academic calendar.
How to Withdraw
- If you wish to withdraw, on or after the first-class day, you must begin the official withdrawal process by submitting the Semester Withdrawal Request.
- This request consists of two parts: Intent to Withdraw & Clearance Signatures.
- The Intent to Withdraw is used to document the date on which a student notifies the University of their intent to withdraw. The recorded Date of Intent serves as the official notification date and will be retained throughout the withdrawal review process.
- The Clearance Signatures is used to collect the required signatures needed to process a student's request to withdraw from the University. As the form routes through each required office, the student will be counseled on the potential academic, financial, and enrollment implications of withdrawing to ensure they are able to make an informed decision.
- Important: The Semester Withdrawal Request must be completed and returned to the Office of the Registrar by the withdrawal deadline published in the University's Academic Calendar. Failure to submit a completed form by the applicable deadline may result in the withdrawal request not being processed.
- This request consists of two parts: Intent to Withdraw & Clearance Signatures.
