CBA Hosts First Small Business Conference

On Saturday, Jan. 10, the College of Business Administration hosted its first Small Business Conference sponsored by JOB (Joint Opportunities for Business & Job Creation), a community partnership with Kingsville Community Federal Credit Union, Kleberg County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,  Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville College of Business Administration and the Business Resource Center at Del Mar College.

Over a dozen local small business owners braved the freezing temperatures to attend the half day conference.  Three concurrent presentations were held for each of three sessions. Topics covered were Marketing 101 for Small Businesses, Effective Management Skills for Small Business Owners, Finance: The Language of Business (Financial Statement Overview), What is Social Media Marketing?, Motivating Employees, Financial Analysis for Improved Bottom Line, • Income Tax Updates, Attracting and Retaining Talent, and finally, Tips for Securing Your Business Information.

The sessions were taught by College of Business of Administration faculty and were designed to enable small business owners in our community to promote the local economy and create jobs. Cash prizes were awarded to random participants and everyone got a hot breakfast. Due to the great response, an additional conference is being planned for Summer 2015.  Contact Marco Villegas for more information regarding the JOB program.
