Dr. Schelvin D. Robinson is a Lecturer Professor of Trumpet at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. He recently earned the Doctor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Florida State University, along with graduate certificates in Arts Administration and College Teaching. He holds a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida A&M University.
Dr. Robinson’s orchestral experience includes the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Ocala Symphony Orchestra, and Big Bend Community Orchestra. He has also performed with the Florida Music Educators Association Intercollegiate Band and the HBCU Intercollegiate Consortium Band. As a soloist, he has appeared at the Southeastern Trumpet Festival in Atlanta and Valdosta, Georgia, and has been featured with the Florida State University Concert Band and the Broward College Symphonic Band.
A highlight of Dr. Robinson’s performing career was touring internationally with The Cody Chesnutt Band on the “Landing on a Hundred” tour from 2010 to 2012, which included recording at Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. He also served as featured soloist and lead trumpet for the homegoing service of the U.S. Representative Carrie Meek.
Dr. Robinson previously served as an adjunct faculty member at Virginia State University from 2023 to 2026, where he had the distinction of having his trumpet ensemble perform during the 2026 International Trumpet Guild Prelude Session. From 2020 to 2023, he served on the faculty at Florida Memorial University, where he taught applied trumpet, music appreciation, and music history and directed the trumpet ensemble. Additionally, from 2014 to 2023, Dr. Robinson taught students in grades 6 through 12 within the Broward and Miami-Dade County public school systems.
His professional affiliations include Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the Florida Bandmasters Association, the Florida Music Educators Association, the NAfME Multicultural Network, and the International Trumpet Guild. His principal teachers include Dr. Christopher Moore, Dr. Joyce Davis, and Dr. Longineu Parsons. He is also the founder of Trumpet Outreach for Youth Education (T.O.Y.E.), a nonprofit organization that provides free and affordable trumpet lessons, workshops, and performance opportunities for young musicians.
