Dr. James Plank

Assistant Professor of Practice - Criminal Justice

My name is Dr. James Plank. I hold a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, with a research emphasis in police training and communication skills. I have worked in the U.S. criminal justice system for over 18 years and look to incorporate that experience into my teaching.

After graduating from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, I began working as a Juvenile Probation Officer with the Bell County Juvenile Probation Department. Four years later, I took a position as a District Parole Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Parole Division where I supervised sex offenders. Wanting to be more involved with my community, I then became a Police Officer with the Killeen Police Department where I worked on patrol for 12 years.

I have a passion for Criminal Justice and a desire to create positive change within my field. I believe the best way for this to occur is through education and research. I look forward to helping future Criminal Justice students become practitioners in this exciting field.
