Professional Counselor II

Hi, I’m Kristen Perez! I serve as a Professional Counselor at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, since 2023 but was a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology through Grad school 2019 -2021.

My approach to counseling is trauma-informed and person-centered. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and often integrate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness. I work with students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, academic stress, life transitions, and more. I also enjoy supporting students who want to strengthen assertive communication skills, adjust to new life circumstances, boost self-esteem, and incorporate positive psychology into their daily lives. I believe in creating a safe and welcoming space where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.

As a first-generation college graduate from rural South Texas, I am passionate about expanding access to mental health support in underserved communities. I am currently pursuing my doctorate in Educational Leadership, focusing my research on mental health services in rural schools and higher education.

Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my daughter, singing karaoke with friends, and staying involved in my church community. Helping students feel supported and capable both in and outside the classroom is at the heart of everything I do.

Schedule an appointment today and let's reach those goals together. :)
