Job Descriptions
The Intramural Sports Official is responsible for officiating various sports and events within the Competitive Sports schedule. No previous playing or officiating experience necessary. We provide full training and mentoring for new officials. This role directly reports to a Competitive Sports Supervisor.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete official training consisting of classroom sessions, on-court clinics, and scrimmage (practice) games.
- Consistent in upholding all Rec. Sports department policies and procedures for patron and employee management related to the position.
- Assist with activity set-up/take down and checking in participants.
- Practice good customer service habits and treat all teams/participants as equally and fairly as possible.
- Actively keep score and track other affiliated items related to specific activities (i.e. fouls, timeouts, etc.).
Additional Requirements
- Attend departmental staff training and all in-service training.
- Ability to problem solve within limits of departmental policy and procedures.
- Have knowledge of the rules of the sport.
- Ability to make split-second decisions during game situations.
Working Conditions
- Will be required to stand for an extended amount of time.
- Will be required to be outside in different weather conditions.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 15 lbs.
- Expected to work around large crowds and noise.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under stress, be able to react quickly, and respond in emergency situations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure the cleanliness of the facility spaces and equipment; be responsible for adhering to daily cleaning schedules, and ensure that cleaning supplies are fully stocked.
- Perform all work in a cooperative and professional manner in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Enforce policies to ensure safety, be alert to injuries and inappropriate behavior, approach situations as trained, and report appropriately.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions regarding the facility and/or fitness equipment and assisting patrons.
- Maintain frequent and effective communication with patrons, coworkers, student supervisors, and professional staff.
Additional Requirements
- Attend departmental staff training and all in-service training.
- Ability to problem solve within limits of departmental policy and procedures.
- Strong judgment to identify and apply existing guidelines and Rec. Sport policies.
- Ability to work independently to accomplish all tasks to a high standard.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to dust, chemical fumes, and heights.
- Expected to work around large crowds and noise.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under stress, be able to react quickly, and respond in emergency situations.
- Must be able to re-rack weights (up to 50lbs), help move/push heavy equipment or machines, and conduct other activities that could require heavy lifting (with assistance).
- This position involves standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, repetitive hand/wrist motion, repetitive bending/stooping, and climbing stairs/ladders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for building and maintaining administrative resources (e.g. operations manual, training, documentation, etc.).
- Assist with staff development (i.e. staff banquets, incentive prizes, general onboarding, de-boarding employees, etc.).
- Aid the Director with short and long-term projects related to the department.
- Perform general office duties, including answering phones/email, retrieving mail, running errands, managing office supply inventory, etc.
- Assist Director with running of reports and providing other needed data.
- Act as a general hub for sending patrons, employees, and others to the appropriate resources.
- Represent and speak generally for the department at campus-wide events.
Additional Requirements
- Attend departmental staff training and all in-service training.
- Ability to problem solve within limits of departmental policy and procedures.
- Have strong leadership, organization, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Be skilled in technology such as Fusion and Microsoft 365.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment.
- Must be able to work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to set up/take down materials needed at various events.
- Normal office environment and moderate noise levels.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide safe and effective workouts to music using the most current techniques sanctioned by leading certification specialists.
- Assist in monitoring class enrollment and the setting up and storing of equipment.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by using proper form and techniques learned in the training program prior to instructing.
- Educate participants on the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
- Provide motivation and support for all participants.
- Assist in the monitoring of class enrollment by checking class passes.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Basic understanding of the cardiovascular system, anatomy, and kinesiology.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Participation in group exercise, and some experience in assisting or teaching.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification upon hire or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Experience and demonstration of skills to the Student Director of Fitness may be accepted instead of certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, or similar that is acceptable to the Student Director of Fitness, or
- License or Certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization such as Zumba, Les Mills, Yoga Alliance, or similar that is acceptable to the Student Director of Fitness.

- This position involves standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, repetitive hand/wrist motion, and repetitive bending.
- Occasional lifting and moving of items up to 15-30 lbs.
- Expected to work around large crowds and loud noise.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all participating clients by using proper form and spotting techniques learned in a personal training certification program.
- Provide a safe and effective workout routine that meets the needs of the client and provides a realistic and safe way to reach the client’s goals and objectives.
- Educate participating clients on the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
- Provide support and motivation as the client progresses to their individual goals.
- Ensure the safe use of exercise equipment and training methodologies.
- Be available to the client to answer questions within the scope of the personal training practice.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Current certification in personal training from a nationally recognized certification organization is required before application from ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or NASM.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification upon hire or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Experience and demonstration of skills to the Student Director of Fitness.
- High level of working knowledge of the proper utilization of all modalities of resistance training and cardiovascular conditioning equipment in the Student Recreation Center.
- Willingness to train a diversified community of clientele.
- Good time management as well as interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Working Conditions
- Frequent lifting of light to heavy equipment.
- Common muscle strains and sprains associated with exercise and activity.
- Possible exposure to loud music.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
