These Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are designed to help you understand the readmission process after enforced withdrawal and what steps you need to take to return to Texas A&M University–Kingsville. If you are thinking about coming back, or have already submitted a Readmission Request, the FAQ will guide you through deadlines, requirements, decisions, and next steps so you can move forward with confidence.

What is scholastic probation?
You’re on scholastic probation if your TAMUK GPA falls below 2.0 (summer not included).
How do I get off scholastic probation?
Earn a TAMUK GPA of 2.0 or higher by the end of the probation semester.
What happens if I don’t get it up?
You’ll be placed on enforced withdrawal the next semester.
What is enforced withdrawal?
It means you must take at least one semester off unless you’re approved for readmission.
Can I still register if I’m on enforced withdrawal?
Only if your Readmission Request is approved; otherwise, you’ll be dropped from your classes before the semester starts.
What is a Readmission Request?
It’s a request asking permission to return to TAMUK before the required absence is over.
When is the deadline?
Submit your request by the end of the first day of class for the semester you want to return.
What do I need to submit?
- Online Readmission Request form
- Personal statement that includes:
- Reasons for past academic challenges
- What you’ve done to improve
- Your plan for future success
How will my request be evaluated?
Your request is reviewed using a scoring rubric.
What happens after I submit?
You’ll get a notification in your student email with the decision.
What if my request is approved?
You’ll be able to stay registered and must participate in the Javelina Reset Program.
What if my request is denied?
You’ll take at least one semester off (summer doesn’t count).
Does this affect financial aid?
Your financial aid may be affected. Contact the Financial Aid Office to check your situation.
Can repeating classes help raise my GPA?
Yes; retake classes at TAMUK to improve your GPA.
Do I need to repeat a class at TAMUK for it to count?
Yes; only TAMUK repeats replace a previous grade.
Do I have to take it with the same professor?
No; just the same course name and number.
