Academic Policies

Welcome to the Academic Policies section of the Javelina Reset program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. This page outlines key academic standards and procedures that support student success, including:

  • Expectations for scholastic performance
  • Consequences for falling below minimum grade-point requirements
  • Options for academic reinstatement

It explains how students are placed on scholastic probation or enforced withdrawal if their cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, and details the process for requesting readmission after an enforced withdrawal, including necessary steps, and required documentation. These policies are designed to help students understand academic standing, navigate challenges, and access support as they work toward degree completion.

  • Students will be placed on scholastic probation any time their cumulative institution grade point average at A&M-Kingsville falls below 2.0, summer not included.
  • Such students are required to participate to the fullest in the Academic Recovery Program and to seek professional academic advising.
  • Students who are on scholastic probation for a semester will be removed from such probation at the conclusion of that semester or summer term if they earn a minimum 2.0 cumulative institutional grade point average.

Students will be placed on enforced withdrawal for the following semester (summer not included) if they meet the following conditions:

  • Were placed on scholastic probation for a semester and
  • Fail to achieve the minimum 2.0 cumulative institutional grade point average at the end of that semester

  • 1st Suspension- students who have been placed on their first enforced withdrawal may return after an absence of one semester.
  • 2nd Suspension- students who have been placed on their second enforced withdrawal may return after an absence of one semester.
  • 3rd Suspension- students placed on enforced withdrawal for a third time may return only after an absence of two consecutive semesters (summer not included).

  • Students placed on enforced withdrawal may request that the required absence period be shortened or waived.
  • To be reinstated prior to the completion of the required length of suspension, students must have an approved Readmission Request on file.
  • For additional details, refer to the Readmission Request - Process.
