How it Works:
Choose one online course or up to 2 face-to-face courses to receive 3-5 credit hours toward your degree! Classes are during Summer Session II: July 6-August 6, 2026.
Approximate Cost savings:
3 credit hours = $1,400 saved
5 credit hours = $2,000 saved
Course Offerings

Online (Choose one)
- Arts History I (ARTS 1303): 1:00 p.m. - 3:05 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. - 6:05 p.m.
- A lecture course in the history of painting, sculpture, architecture and other art forms from prehistoric times to the 14th century.
- Intro to Oral Communication (COMS 1311): 9:00 a.m. - 11:05 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 3:05 p.m.
- Theory and practice of speech communication in interpersonal, small group and public speaking.
- History of Rock and Roll (MUSI 2310): 10:00 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. - 4:05 p.m.
- The history of rock music from its roots to its most recent trends, with the emphasis on rock as a musical style. Musical parameters (rhythm, harmony, melody, form, texture) as they apply to rock music. Thorough historical detail and social context for the various rock styles presented (e.g. discussions of race, class, gender, sexuality, politics, etc.). Open to both music and non-music majors.

- Intro to Philosophy (PHIL 1301): 9:00 a.m. - 11:05 a.m.
- Inquiries into the nature of the self, the universe and society as they relate to various definitions of reality, truth and value with readings from major works of classical and modern philosophers.
- First-Year Seminar (UNIV 1201): 11:15 a.m. – 12:38 p.m.
- A course designed to enhance the opportunities for success of first-year students through analysis, application, reflection, discussion, and interaction.
- College Algebra (MATH 1314): 12:00 p.m. - 1:40 p.m.
- College-level topics in algebra including functions, graphs, variation, piecewise defined functions, equations of lines, elementary curve fitting, quadratic equations and functions, systems of linear and nonlinear equations, composition of functions, inverse functions, exponential and logarithmic functions and applications related to these topics.
- Non Course Based Math (NCBM 0101): 2:00 p.m. - 3:40 p.m.
- A non-course based option to accelerate developmental math students and support success in college level mathematics. Students must be concurrently registered in a gateway math course (MATH 1314, MATH 1324, MATH 1334, or STAT 1342). Placement is based on mathematics TSIA score and multiple measures (holistic) assessment.
- Foundations of Algebra (MATH 0315): 10:00 a.m. - 11:40 a.m.
- A study of relations and functions, inequalities, algebraic expressions and equations, with a special emphasis on linear and quadratic expression and equations. The course is the study of basics concepts necessary for success in MATH 1314 to include rational expressions, equations, functions, graphs, systems of linear equations, problem solving, exponent, and radicals. Corequisite with MATH 1314. Placement based on Multiple Measure Placement.
Jumpstart FAQ
Who is eligible to apply?
All incoming Fall 2026 freshmen who are Texas residents and attend a Hoggie Days registration session on or before June 16, 2026.
Should I submit my Jumpstart application before attending Hoggie Days?
Yes. Applying before your Hoggie Days session allows you to register for the course that same day. If you’ve already attended Hoggie Days, you can still apply until June 24, 2026.
What are the steps to enroll in Javelina Jumpstart?
1. Submit the application on this page.
2. Your academic advisor will review your application.
3. If approved, you will receive a contract in your TAMUK student email to review and sign.
4. After the signed contract is received, you will get an email letting you know you can register for courses.
Are there any costs for participating in Javelina Jumpstart?
Yes. Textbooks and parking passes are not covered by the program. Tuition and fees are covered by TAMUK, but you may briefly see charges on your account while Financial Aid processes the payment.

Do I need to complete the 2025–2026 FAFSA to participate?
Yes. Your 2025–2026 FAFSA will be used toward your Jumpstart course bill before TAMUK covers the remaining cost.
You will also need to complete the 2026–2027 FAFSA to receive federal aid for the Fall 2026 semester.

Why might an application not be approved?
An application may not be approved if:
- You already have credit for the requested course
- The course does not fit your degree plan
- Taking the course would prevent you from having a full course load in the Fall
Are the online classes self-paced?
No. All online Javelina Jumpstart classes are synchronous, meaning students and instructors meet online at scheduled times during the week.
Do I have to live on campus while taking my course?
No. Living on campus is not required.
Online courses: You can complete the course from home.
Face-to-face courses: You may live on campus if it is more convenient, but housing costs are not covered by the program.
What happens if I fail a Javelina Jumpstart course?
You will not be placed on scholastic probation for the Fall semester. You may repeat the course in a future semester, but the Jumpstart program will not cover the cost of retaking it.
Students may also use the grade exclusion policy to improve their GPA. Your academic advisor can provide more details.
