Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Two student populations receive priority consideration: pregnant or parenting students and students who were previously in foster care. Applicants must either take MATH 1314 or ENGL 1301 for the first time, or retake one of these courses to earn a passing grade.

What are the steps to getting enrolled in ADELANTE?

Complete and submit the application on this page. Your academic advisor and Financial Aid will review your application. If approved, the Registrar will enroll you in the course and you will receive an email confirmation.

When do ADELANTE classes start and end?

ADELANTE takes place during Summer II, beginning July 6 and ending August 6.

Are there any costs to participate in ADELANTE?

No. Tuition, fees, textbooks, and required online subscriptions are covered by the university. Participants are also offered a free dorm room and meal plan during the program. Limited funding may be available for child care and mileage reimbursement for parenting students living off campus. A temporary charge may appear on your account while Financial Aid processes the university payment.

Why are charges appearing on my university account?

A temporary charge may appear while the Financial Aid office processes the payment provided by the university. If you have questions about a charge, please contact Dr. Jeffrey Glick at jeffrey.glick@tamuk.edu.

Do I need to complete the 2025–2026 FAFSA to participate?

Yes. Your 2025–2026 FAFSA will be applied toward the cost of the ADELANTE course before the remaining balance is covered by Texas A&M University-Kingsville. You will still need to complete the 2026–2027 FAFSA for federal aid in Fall 2026.

Who can help me with FAFSA or Financial Aid questions?

Why might an application not be approved?

Applications may not be approved if the student already earned a C or higher in the course, the course does not fit the student’s degree plan, or taking the course would prevent the student from enrolling full-time in the Fall semester.

Are ADELANTE classes face-to-face or online?

All ADELANTE courses are taught face-to-face.

Do I have to live on campus during the program?
