Report a Crime

Crime Report Form

Use this form to report a crime or incident that has been brought to your attention as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

You should report an incident if:

  • You witnessed it.
  • A victim or complainant shared the information with you.
  • Someone told you about an incident involving another person.

When in doubt, report it. University Police Department staff will review the information and determine whether it is a Clery-related crime for inclusion in the university’s annual security report. You may be contacted if additional information or clarification is needed.

Urgent or Ongoing Incidents

If a crime is in progress or an incident is urgent and may threaten the health or safety of others, contact the University Police Department immediately at (361) 593-2611.

For emergencies, call 911.

Confidential Reporting

If a victim does not want to involve the police or pursue action through the university or criminal justice system, please let them know that they may request a confidential report without revealing their identity.

Confidential reports allow the university to:

  • Respect the victim’s wishes for confidentiality.
  • Track incidents involving members of the university community.
  • Identify patterns of crime by location, method, or assailant.
  • Help alert the campus community to potential safety concerns.
  • Include the incident in the university’s annual crime statistics.

When appropriate, ask the victim whether they give permission for the University Police Department to contact them directly for additional information.

If you are unsure whether an incident should be reported, report it.
