Texas A&M University-Kingsville uses SafeZone as a unified safety, communications, and wellbeing service for the university community.

In the event of a significant emergency or dangerous situation that poses an immediate threat to the health or safety of individuals on campus, the university will issue emergency notifications without delay, while considering the overall safety of the campus community. Notifications provide specific instructions to help promote a safe campus environment.

How Emergency Alerts Are Sent

SafeZone emergency alerts may include:

• Push notifications through the SafeZone app
• SMS text messages
• Email notifications

All students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled in SafeZone. Visitors and others may request enrollment through the University Police Department and may provide additional contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses for spouses or parents who wish to receive emergency notifications.

SafeZone is used for official notification of critical emergencies involving an imminent threat to the campus community. Once the threat has been resolved, the university will issue a follow-up or all-clear message.

Activate SafeZone

To make sure you can receive alerts and access SafeZone's safety features:

1. Download the free SafeZone app:
   • Apple App Store
   • Google Play
2. Register using your TAMUK email:
   • Faculty/Staff: UserID@tamuk.edu (example: kuabc123@tamuk.edu) and your Blue & Gold password.
   • Students: Your TAMUK student email (example: first.lastname@students.tamuk.edu) and the password you use to log in to Blue & Gold.
3. Sign in with Microsoft 365 when prompted.
4. Complete your profile by adding your cell phone number and photo and accepting the Terms of Service.
5. Allow app permissions for:
   • Bluetooth
   • Notifications
   • Location Services

These permissions help ensure you receive emergency notifications and have the most accurate SafeZone experience.

Emergency Notification System

It is university policy to notify the campus community through the Tier II Emergency Notification System when a significant emergency or dangerous situation has been confirmed.

The University Police Department may receive information about an emergency from sources including:

• Law enforcement
• Fire departments
• National Weather Service
• Office of Risk Management
• Environmental Health and Safety

The university conducts monthly tests of the emergency notification system and its procedures to help ensure the system is effective and ready when needed.
