International Undergraduate Student Admissions

A person who is not a citizen or permanent resident alien of the United States is considered an International Student.

To be admitted as an International Student, an applicant must submit the following information to the Office of Admission by the published deadline date.

General Information: The study year is composed of two semesters of four and one half (4 1/2) months each, beginning in late August (Fall) and January (Spring), plus two (2) summer sessions, beginning in June. Students desiring to enter the university must have all documents listed below in our office before the following deadline dates:

Official transcripts with subjects and marks received from any colleges or universities attended. Certified, literal translations of all credentials officially issued in any language other than English.

Admitted Students

  1. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exams are not part of the admission requirement; however, all undergraduates are required to take one of the tests prior to registration.

  2. A Letter of Sponsorship is required from the party that will financially support the applicant during the pursuit of a degree. The letter should certify the sponsor's commitment to pay the educational, living, health, and personal expenses of the applicant until completion of the degree(s). A sponsor may be the student, the student's parents, or a third-party organization. The sponsor's letter must be dated within six months of the first enrollment according to the dates listed below on the bank statement requirement

  3. A Bank Statement certifying the sponsor to have the required funds (stated in U.S. currency) dated within twelve months (one year) of the first enrollment.  Please find the amounts on the OISSS website under I-20 requirements.  

  4. International students transferring from another institution in the United States must submit the following additional documents:
  • International Student Status Transfer Form completed by student and DSO of current institution 
    (form located in pdf format on the Apply for Admission webpage)
  • Updated proof of financial support dated within three months or less of the first enrollment at TAMUK
  • Copy of current I-20; copy of student's F1 visa; Copy of I-95 (front & back)
  • For students with dependents: Written notification requesting dependents to be included on I-20

NOTE: Upon completion of the application process, successful applicants will be issued an I-20 by the International Student & Scholar Services Office. Students with an F-1 Student Visa are required to enroll full-time while at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Immigration status as an approved student will be granted upon submission and review of the stated documents. An I-20 form will be issued from the International Student Services Office. International students applying for admission are reminded that possession of an I-20 form from this university does not relieve them of the responsibility to comply with United States immigration procedures.

When will I hear about my acceptance?

The average time is about two months if all documents required for admission are submitted at the same time. This includes mail time and the evaluation of documents by the Office of Admission. Students desiring to enter the university must have all documents submitted in a timely manner. Log in to Blue & Gold to check your admission status, after you have submitted an application through ApplyTexas. If you have specific questions please send an email to admissions@tamuk.edu.

Checks and money orders made payable to Texas A&M-Kingsville are accepted, or once the student is given their applicant ID (K#) they will be able to submit their fee through this website https://commerce.cashnet.com/TAMUK_ADMO?ITEMCODE=ADMO-APP03. The application fee is not refundable.

If you have not yet graduated from secondary school, a transcript showing all completed work may be accepted for early admission. External examination reports should be provided when applicable.

  1. You may review your options below.  Please send all test scores directly from the testing portal, soft copies sent via email or through the upload portal will not be used to complete the admission file.  Test scores should not be older than 2 years or they will be considered expired.

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)  Code#6822
      • A score of 79 (internet-based) or a 4 or higher on test taken past January 21, 2026 is the university minimum requirement for all graduate students.
      • This score must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Services (ETS) and dated within two (2) years of enrollment. Residual (Institutional) TOEFL exams taken at another institution will not be accepted. TOEFL (Code#6822).

    • Duolingo English Test (DET)
      • Applicants may submit the Duolingo English Test (DET), which combines an English proficiency test with a brief video interview. Duolingo’s technology and format allow applicants to complete the test at any time or place with internet access. The university's most competitive applicants have DET scores of at least 100.
    • Pearson Test of English (PTE)
      • The minimum required is 53.
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 
      • The minimum score required is a 6.0 overall band score. Texas A&M University-Kingsville only accepts scores submitted electronically by the IELTS test center.
      • No paper Test Report Forms will be accepted. An institutional code is NOT required for IELTS. Please contact the test center directly where you took the test and request that your test scores be sent to the following e-download account:

    All international students are required to take one of the above english proficiency tests unless they qualify for a waiver.

    The following are also considered for the English Proficiency Admission Requirement:

    • GRE Verbal Score 400 (Score on the Prior GRE Scale) or 146 (Score on the Current GRE Scale)
    • Students who have completed their entire formal education at the secondary or postsecondary level in the following countries are exempt from the TOEFL requirement: American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, Federated States of Micronesia, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guam, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Siant Kitts and Nevis, Santa Lucia, Trinidad-Tobago, Tuks and Caicos Islands, and United Kingdom (all). Please note: Applicants from Puerto Rico, where Spanish is the primary language, are required to submit a TOEFL or equivalent.
    • Based on the review and decision of the College of Graduate Studies, students who have earned at least 12 credits, with a grade C or better, in university-level courses from a U.S. institution or an institution in one of the countries listed above, may be exempt from TOEFL.
    • Completion of IEP program at TAMUK ELTC with an Advanced Plus.
    • Completion of the advanced-level Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP) offered by the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC).

However, either test may be used for placement purposes in English and math courses as well as a TOEFL alternative. ACT (Code#4214), SAT (Code#6822) These scores must be received directly from the testing facilities.

  • Note: To be admitted as an entering freshman to the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville students are required to have a minimum composite score of 21 on the ACT (with a minimum mathematics score of 22), a 970 on the old SAT (with a minimum mathematics score of 530) or a 1050 on the new SAT (with a minimum math score of 560). Applicants whose test scores fall below the minimum scores for full admission to the College of Engineering but have an 18 or above on the ACT (with a mathematics score of 19 or above), an 810 or above on the old SAT (with a mathematics score of 500 or above) or an 890 on the new SAT (with a minimum math score of 530) will be admitted to the Pre-Engineering (PPEN) program in order to complete preparatory coursework. Students who submit ACT or SAT test scores but do not meet either of these requirements will be admitted to the Alternate Pre-Engineering (APEN) program.
