Cristian Zavala


Lecturer of Percussion

Cristian Zavala is a performer and educator specializing in classical and marching percussion, currently serving as Lecturer of Percussion at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. At TAMUK, he teaches lessons, percussion ensemble, percussion methods, and leads the marching percussion section for The Pride of South Texas.

Cristian is a founding member of the international percussion quartet Banyan Percussion, the national performing oboe and percussion duo, Duo Precipice, and the percussionist for the music ensemble, Border Bones. He has performed with The Orchestra Now, the New Manhattan Sinfonietta, Frost Percussion Group, the New World Symphony Percussion Section, Orchestra Miami, and the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra. Cristian has taught at Bard College Conservatory, the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony.

Cristian holds degrees from Texas A&M University-Kingsville (B.M.) and the University of Miami's Frost School of Music (M.M.). His work continues to explore the intersection of performance, education, and community engagement.
