Ernesto Nieto, founder and president of the National Hispanic Institute (NHI), is the keynote speaker. He founded the NHI in 1979. He was joined by Gloria de Leon in furthering the organization’s work in 1982. As a working team of husband and wife, this couple has long been recognized as the chief architects of NHI’s work today.

Nieto is originally from Houston where he learned his understanding of Latino youth through the work of his parents, Santos and Esther Nieto, long time civic and recreation directors for the Houston City Parks and Recreation Department. After completing his undergraduate work at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Nieto served in different professional capacities as a classroom teacher, regional representative with federal government and executive manager in state government.

In addition to a great dinner and speaker, there will be entertainment and a disc jockey.
