Fast-Track (4+1) Programs

Fast-Track (4+1) programs at Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK) allow eligible undergraduate students to begin graduate coursework during their final year of undergraduate study. By applying up to 9 credit hours toward both their undergraduate and graduate degrees, students can get a head start on their master’s degree and potentially complete both degrees in as little as five years.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in a Fast-Track (4+1) program, students must:

  • Be in their final year of undergraduate study.
  • Have earned at least 90 undergraduate credit hours.
  • Receive a recommendation from their undergraduate program coordinator, who will verify that they meet the admission requirements specific to the graduate program.

How to Get Started

Interested students should consult with their academic advisor and the graduate coordinator for their intended master’s program to discuss eligibility, program requirements, and the appropriate graduate courses to complete through Fast-Track.

Fast-Track Process

Step 1: Graduate Coordinator Recommendation
The graduate program coordinator completes the Fast-Track Recommendation Form. Once the recommendation is submitted, the student receives a link to complete the Fast-Track admission application.

Step 2: Student Application
Using the provided link, the student completes the Fast-Track admission application.

Step 3: Application Review and Plan of Study
The application is routed to the graduate program coordinator for review, following the standard graduate application process. The Fast-Track review process includes additional questions and requires a plan of study identifying the nine graduate credit hours the student intends to complete through Fast-Track and the corresponding undergraduate courses for which those credits will count.

Step 4: Concurrent Enrollment
After the student is admitted, the student and graduate program coordinator complete the Fast-Track Concurrent Enrollment Form to facilitate enrollment in the approved graduate courses.

Step 5: Credit Articulation
At the end of each Fast-Track semester, after grades have been posted, the graduate program coordinator submits the Fast-Track Articulation Form. This step ensures that the approved credits are applied toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.
