Army R.O.T.C.

A qualified Veteran who desires to be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army can do so through cross enrollment with the Military Science Department at TAMUK. As an R.O.T.C. Cadet in the advance courses, a Veteran would receive $100.00 per month allowance in addition to VA educational benefits.  For more information contact the R.O.T.C. Counseling & Guidance

TAMUK maintains a staff of professional counselors to assist students in achieving personal and educational goals.  Counselors will help students evaluate and clarify their goals, abilities, interests, and values as they explore alternatives in career decision-making.  The Academic Skills Center is located in Room# 130 in Eckhart Hall.  Visit TAMUK Counseling & Guidance!

 

Financial Aid

Hazlewood Benefits

Texas Veterans no longer entitled to educational benefits under the VA, are eligible for assistance under the Hazlewood Act, if they are not eligible for any other federal financial aid.  Hazlewood waives tuition and fees for the Texas Veteran thereby allowing him/her to complete his/her education at a relatively low cost.  Under the Hazlewood Act, a Texas Veteran is one who served 180 days of consecutive active duty, whose DD-214 Member 4 Copy shows Texas as his/her Home of Record, and who received an Honorable Discharge.  Please see the Texas Veterans Commission website for more information: https://www.tvc.texas.gov/education/hazlewood/

Tutorial Assistance

A Veteran/Dependent enrolled in half-time or more, having a deficiency in a course in which he/she is currently enrolled, is eligible to be reimbursed for a maximum of $1,200 for tutorial expenses.  Application for tutorial assistance must be made through the Veterans Affairs Officer.

 

VA Work-Study Benefits

VA work-study allows eligible veterans to perform services for the VA in return for a monetary allowance equal to the prevailing federal minimum wage.  Applications for VA work-study must be made through the Veterans Affairs Office.
