First-Time in College Scholarship Opportunities


First-time in college students must apply for admission (goapplytexas.org) to Texas A&M University-Kingsville for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. First-time in college students must complete the application for admission, including the submission of all supporting documentation (application, application fee, official transcripts, and test scores).

All institutional scholarships are awarded through Javelina Scholarships, our online scholarship system. This system allows you to easily apply to scholarships at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The first step to be considered for scholarships is to be admitted to Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Scholarships Opportunities 

Merit Scholarships

Academically competitive scholarships for first-time in college and transfer students funded by Texas A&M University-Kingsville. These scholarships are eligible for renewal as long as students meet the renewal requirements.

Presidential Scholarship - $5,000- $12,000

Academic Excellence Scholarship - $1,000- $4,000

How do I apply for a Merit Scholarship?

  • To be considered for a merit scholarship, students must apply for admission to Texas A&M-Kingsville and complete their application for admission, including the submission of all supporting documentation (application, application fee, official transcripts, and test scores*), by the January 15 priority date.

*Students who are unable to take the ACT/SAT will still be considered for merit scholarships. In such cases, the University determines eligibility based on other criteria, such as class rank and high school GPA. Students are strongly encouraged to submit their test scores if they test at a later date and request reconsideration for a merit scholarship.

Departmental Scholarships

Consist of institutional and endowed scholarships that are awarded on a competitive basis or as specified by the endowment agreements set up by the donors. Some scholarships may be eligible for renewal while others are not. 

How do I apply for scholarships?

  • Log into our Javelina Scholarship portal
  • Create/update your student profile
  • Answer questions from the “Questions” tab, to be matched to scholarships you may qualify for.
  • View your matches, and apply!
  • Recipients will receive an email to their TAMUK email with scholarship details.

When do I apply?

  • Students must apply for scholarships before our priority date

Priority date: March 1

External Scholarships

Consist of privately funded scholarships that are sponsored by private donors, professional organizations, foundations, and many other sources outside of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
